Dion – Abraham Martin And John lyrics
Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked 'round and he's gone.

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, and it's a-gonna be one day...

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill,
With Abraham, Martin and John.

Do this day, I cannot listen to the original version of am&j without tearing up. The song is about snuffing out the voices of reason before their time. We really never got to know bobby, but a, m & j where voices that lead us to do the right thing. Abraham brought the right to the center, john brought the left to the center and martin brought an entire race to be more accepted.
Richard holler wrote the song as a tribute to the recently fallen bobby kennedy. The song writer was trying to tell kids like me at the time to come together rather then drop out. I believe in what the song stands for. We need to come together, but it won't happen unless we meet in the middle.

Has anybody here seen my old friend David Niven.
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.

The written lyrics claim it's Abraham, but it is clearly David Niven.

This song is out of this world, absolutely beautiful with so much heart felt meaning that every single time I hear it, I get goose bumps and start crying, no matter where I am.

These people put their lives on the line standing up for what's right, cutting their lives short and ultimately making our lives so much better.

The thing is, these people shouldn't have had to die, they were good people trying to do good for everyone, it's so sad.

The very first line is "Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone."

Everywhere the Lyrics state it Abraham. It is not. It is David Niven.
Has anybody here seen my old friend David Niven?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.

Meaning? I remember hearing that john was dead in my car and my leg starting to shake and I couldn't hold the clutch down because he was. Who he was; my wife waking me up, completely distraught, saying that bobby had been murdered. Knowing how abraham could have bound up the wounds of the civil war when I heard news of martin and memphis, all I could think of was. Another 100 years, another 100 years.
Meaning? Things haven't had much meaning to me since 1963. Abe was my father, the others my brothers. I've been pretty much alone since then. Even my children know my loneliness. Even my wives and lovers understood that the candles were blown out.
Those of you who weren't there don't, can't, know. They are the lucky ones.
