Eric Clapton – Tears In Heaven lyrics
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven
...

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
?
Ill find my way through night and day
Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven...

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please...begging please

Beyond the door there's peace Im sure
And I know therell be no more tears in heaven...

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven...

Clapton is imagining visiting his son (who died in a tragic accident at age five) in heaven, and wondering what would happen. Would his son recognize him ("would you know my name") or even acknowledge him ("would you hold my hand")?

He understands that he has to return to reality ("I must be strong and carry on cause I know I don't belong", "I'll find my way through night and day cause I know I just can't stay"), and understands that he'll have to live through years of grief ("time can bring you down, time can bend your knees, time can break your heart, leave you begging please"), but will eventually be reunited after his own death ("beyond the door there's peace I'm sure, and I know there'll be no more tears in heaven").

This song was written after a man lost his five year old son. The boy was playing and fell out of a window (13th story not sure how high, but that's the number that I believe it was) and died. Feeling the pain of the loss he came up with the beautiful song.

This song really gets to me. My grandma recently died. I know it's sad I cried a lot and it took me some time to get over it. And when I was six, my mom died which took longer to get over than my grandma because I got to see my mom more often and things were a lot different. Don't get me wrong, it was alot more different without my grandma. You know what I mean. But, everytime I hear all these songs about people dying I think of them and trust me it's no laughing matter!

Well I lost my First and probably only true love on October 11th, 2008. He was not only a great lover, and bestfriend to me but also the best father in the world to our son. He used to sing this song all the time, along with many others, so when I hear it is like hearing him sing it about himself bc he was taken from us way to soon, and he shouldn't be in heaven like it says in the song; he should still be here with us. We miss you &Love you so much austin!

My son was born several months premature. I remember hoping that he would not have to endure a life of suffering and torment. After nine days of fighting for his life, he had nothing left and passed away. The guilt that I have felt ever since is exactly what this song is about.
Eric Clapton blamed himself for his son's death and that is what this song is about. It's about a parent that feels responsible for their child's death.
I hope none of you ever feel the pain he felt while writing this song, it overshadows any loss you've experienced.

It's fresh because my pet dog was dead a few weeks ago. He was hit by a trailer truck. I was worried because he was 3 days missing and then the news brought us down. He saw tom dead on the spot. I can't believe it so. I came right away to confirm if. He's dead and it's true. My tears fell down and my hands were shaking and I couldn't breathe. I was so devastated. But I'm trying to cope up. I know it not easy to move on but I'll try my best to continue my life without him.

Actually, I don't believe that if you die you would get the chance to be with the one you love in heaven because eventually our souls will undergo in a process called reincarnation. This way the soul could have a second chance for another life to fulfill his or her unfinished mission in some other way and a different life which is not related to the first one, but the efforts and the things he/she does will be accumulated to test their souls for another purpose, and that is to love over and over again.

Never change what needs to happen
Listen to me please; don’ t feel bad, some souls have born just to teach us something… it is not your fault is just that… their souls have to teach you something really important for your next step.
It doesn’ t matter what you change about your acts in that moment… it was like that, any way… you can never change things that “ need” to happen, do not feel bad they give us something really important, yes carry on and learn the lesson.
Just live life every moment! Be happy, leaving the most lilliputian’ S moments, every incredible dawn … now winter, please, put your alarm cloth at 07: 45 am and… just wait & see… and feel live… we will see “ them”(our very special people) again, in heaven, of course, they will know our name….

I just lost a guy who was like a brother to me. I love him so much and I never noticed until he was gone. I will miss him always. And this song goes out to him. I know that he's here still watching over everyone. I just wish it didn't have to be this way. I wish you didn't have to go. We never even got to really know each other. I love you Anthony. R.I.P. Bro 3/22/87~ 4/20/09.

I think about my grandma with whom I was very close with. And about a love I've recently lost. I fell in love with her, but found out she never took the relationship seriously. We only dated for a couple weeks, but I fell in love with her very quickly. But this pain is nothing compared to some of the other meanings I've read below. You guys are truly brave people, and I have the highest respect for you.

My husband, love of my life, soul-mate, best friend, confident, lover and so much more passed away 1 year, 3 weeks and 3 days ago. I miss him more than I can say, more than I have words to express the emptiness, the sadness within me. Tears In Heaven helps me through this very hard time because the words have to have been written by someone who has gone through such a heartache and also because they are so what I am feeling in my soul. Had I been just a wee bit as talented as Eric Clapton, I might have been able to write such lyrics although not so beautifully. I love his ever so soft voice when I listen to Tears in Heaven, so gentle, so soft, as if he was singing to his young son, I can hear and feel the love in his voice, I can hear and feel the longing to be with his son because those are exactly the feelings this song brings to my heart. Thank you Eric Clapton, I can so understand your sadness and feel your pain, when we get to heaven, there will be no more tears for either one of us. Thank you for this beautiful song.
