Birdy – Just A Game lyrics
I don't know where I am
I don't know this place
Don't recognize anybody

Just the same old empty face

See these people they lie
And I don't know who to believe anymore

There comes you to keep me safe from harm
There comes you to take me in your arms
Is it just a game?
I don't know
Is it just a game?
I don't know

Pleading eyes that break my heart
So homsick I can't feel
But I know I must play my part
My tears I must conceal

There comes you to keep me safe from harm
There comes you to take me in your arms
Is it just a game?
I don't know
To keep you safe from my bow

Take my hand and my heart races
Flames illuminate our faces
And we're on fire
Blow a kiss to the crowd
They're our only hope now

And now I know my place
And now I know my place
We're all just pieces in their games

It's talking about how katniss and peeta are in the arena. They don't know anybody or where they are. They only have each other to survive. Then it talks about katniss and peeta and the tribute parade. How they were on fire and they were holding hands. Katniss blows a kiss to the capitol people and "they're our only hope now" means that the capitol people now like her and some will be her sponsers. "we're all just pieces of their games" is what peeta said before he went into the arena.

I think it's more from peeta's point of view. He finds comfort in katniss, not she in he. She doesn't even really care about him yet in the scene where they hold hands on the faming chariots. However, he's already hopelessly in love with her. He hopes that one day katniss can really truly love him, but for now he has to wonder if this is just an act to impress their sponsors: "blow a kiss to the crowd, they're our only hope now. "
He has to wonder if there is anything between them at all or if this is just for the hunger games: "is it just a game? "
when katniss comes to peeta in the arena, he's lying alone and injured, waiting to die in the mud. Then, he sees her, coming to help him. His whole life gets better in those moments, because he loves her more than anything, even if she's only coming to help him because they are a team. This song shows peeta's pain as his relationship with katniss continues to bloom. It hurts him all the more, because he doesn't know if their love is fake or real, but he wants more than anything to believe that she is capable of the love he feels so strongly for her.

It's saying love isn't a game we play. We may be different but we all have feelings, especially if your in love. What birdy, the artist, is trying to say, don't pull a person along and break their heart. But as I listened to this song while reading the hunger games it talks about peeta's and katniss's relatinship throughout the book. Along with the lonely feeling katniss speaks about having and how she ends up growing feelings for peeta.

I think it could also possibly be coming from rue. She's only 12, and doesn't have any idea of what to expect. She doesn't know where she is, who the people are, anything that could give her comfort. Also, considering she is also wise for her age, she realizes that she has to "play her part" and give them a game. Katniss would play the caretaker role in the song "keep me safe from harm" & "there comes you to take me in your arms". Although it's most likely not about rue, the "flames illuminate our faces" part kind of rules her out. However, this could also be when she is dying, maybe seeing things from lack of blood. When katniss looks up to the camera in the film and uses the district 12 hand symbol, "blow a kiss to the crowd, they're our only hope now" the crowd would now need to be there for katniss to survive and win the games like rue asks her to do. "and now i know my place" she recognizes her place in the games and realizes that she will soon die and her place will be sealed in death. Although this is just my interpretation.

It is from the movie the hunger games. This song is talking about katniss's confusion and wonder about the capitol. Also her fear about going into the games. Then she sees peeta and sees that he feels the same way but he doesn't want to be " just another price of their games". Katniss feels safer when she is near peeta and since he loves her he is going to do everything he can to keep her safe and alive. The part about fire illuminating their faces is when they are on the chariot being introduced to panem. When it says to blow a kiss they're our only hope now, it is saying that if try are able to somehow stand against the capitol then things will change, but they can't do it without the help of everyone in all of panem.
