Coldplay – Clocks lyrics
Lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
You've put me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead (singing)
Come out of things unsaid, shoot an apple off my head (and a)
Trouble that can't be named, a tiger's waiting to be tamed (singing)
You are, you are

Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks (gonna)
Come back and take you home, I could not stop that you now know (singing)
Come out upon my seas, curse missed opportunities (am I)
A part of the cure, or am I part of the disease (singing)

You are [4x] (singing)
You are [2x]
And nothing else compares
Oh no nothing else compares
Oh and nothing else compares

You are [continues in background]
Home, home, where I wanted to go [2x](I went)
Home, home, where I wanted to go (I went)
Home, home, where I wanted to go

Coldplay are may favourite band, and their lyrics always have some great significance to people. Each song can be interpreted many different ways and I think that's beautiful. To me the song is about living in the moment and overcoming obstacles life throws at you, but it's not sad. I think it's kind of joyful and wonderous about the difficulties they go through, and they marvel at their failures and sucesses. :)

He is trying to find his way home. Ha has lost hope and he realizes that everything he did in he life wasn't perticually good or right, he knows that ha can't fix it or take it back but he wants a second chance. Nothing compares to the want for forgiveness, not many people can get on there knees and beg for forgives ness usually we just stand there stubbornly. He wants to go home back to the place where he belongs.

This song means many different things to everyone. There is no point in people saying it has only one meaning, because everyone has a different point of view, no matter how alike or different they are. Let's pretend for a moment that this song is an abstract painting. All the paint splatters, spots, stripes, curves, and colors have different meanings, but they all mean one thing. This may be hard to understand, but not everyone thinks the same. I'm not saying this is the meaning of the song, because it isn't. I'm just speaking my opinion in an artistic way. ;) -viva la vida girl.

The great thing about all music is that the words can fit anyone's interpretation. One stanza can mean one thing to one person and something completely different to another. It's called "frame of reference." it's why each of us gets into a particular song. Because we can relate, in our own way. I always like to hear years later what the actual motivation was for a group to write a certain song and put a particular sound to it. It's never what I would have thought!

He's lost just like everybody in this corrupt world are at tough times. The only thing saving him is God, and since he realized this, he has taken the first step, which is very good compared to a lot of people in this world who don't believe, which is the greatest sin. He will find the way at least he is on the right road to trusting God, every good Christian has doubts at times it is only human.

This is one the their best songs ever! To me the name and the lyrics together kind of sound like he wants to stop time or reverse the clocks and figure himself out. The confusion and the chaos are what he was feeling and he wanted to get rid of them. But that's one of the greatest things of most of coldplay's songs: everyone can find their own meaning and inspiration.

This has nothing to do with the song. I apologise. Darkcracker57, how do you that the african-americans have black asses? Now that Barrack Obama is your persident, you should at least respect them. They helped the Whites for centuries and this is not their correct predicament. Just put yourself in their shoes and realise. Anyway Rap is very cool and is very entertaining. If you can't do it, do not comment. 50 cent does it very well. I think if you don't know any rapper's black you would love them too. Linkin Park's not black yet they rap. Are you insulting your own race? I'm not from usa, as you know from how I spell the words, but I know now how bad the racism is in your country. You've just tarnished your country's reputation. And I'm just 13. Racism is a very childish behavour, are you a kid?

To the two racist people, that doesn't solve anything. Both comments weren't called for. To dantewave: I don't think this song has anything to do with racism, for you to go out on the deep end and say this is about white people is ridiculous. To darkcracker57: Why are you so angry? Did you feel justified? If it was an eye for an eye the whole world would be blind. Good lord.

I think it means anything colplay wants it to mean. To me, it is a song about clocks, time, a desperation. He's trying to push against something bad in life. Hes desperate to go home and he thinks he can't be saved. It says tides I tried to swim against, which I think means he used to go the wrong way in life, and hes regretting it and wanting to back where he belongs, or start over. (no suicidal thoughts intened.) -by zipper head.

Can't be saved. Swam against the tide of God Unwittingly he speaks of the great I Am and says "You Are" repeatedly as he sings to Him. 'Trouble can't be named' as he has no understanding of this impending hell-and no choice now; only confusion. Confusion is not of the Lord. He missed his 'opportunity' for salvation and thus is a reprobate; unable to go home (forbidden from heaven). Somehow he knows nothing compares to the 'you are' he speaks of. And the music is so beautiful as we all sinners sing the same song with him. I don't believe he even knows what he penned as he wrote this song andnd who inspired him to write his plite. He was inspired to write his feelings and his predicament. Although it may not even really make sense to him but only on a deeper level which he cannot explain.
