Coldplay – The Scientist lyrics
Come up to meet you,
Tell you I'm sorry,
You don't know how lovely you are.

I had to find you,
Tell you I need you,
Tell you I set you apart.

Tell me your secrets,
And ask me your questions,
Oh let's go back to the start.

Runnin' in circles,
Comin' up tails,
Heads on a science apart.

Nobody said it was easy,
It's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh take me back to the start.

I was just guessin',
At numbers and figures,
Pullin' the puzzles apart.

Questions of science,
Science and progress,
Do not speak as loud as my heart.

Tell me you love me,
Come back and haunt me,
Oh, what a rush to the start.

Runnin' in circles,
Chasin' our tails
,
Comin' back as we are.

Nobody said it was easy,
Oh it's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be so hard.
I'm goin' back to the start.

Oh ooh ooh ooh ooh ohh,
Ah ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh,
Oh ooh ooh ooh ooh ohh,
Oh ooh ooh ooh ooh ohh.

    I know you all probably think I'm way off, but this is how I personally relate to the song.
    There is a guy and a girl (forget the video for now okay?) and one is in love with the other, but the other is afraid to admit that their in love as well. One of them doesn't use their heart as much as their head, and the other only uses their heart. In the end. It doesn't work out. Because The Scientist doesn't take a chance on love. So when it's ended, they both hurt, because they were best friends, and in the end. The stubborn idiot realizes he was in love all along. : sigh: ahah. I know. Probably way off base, but that's my rendition :)

    I believe this song is about a loved one dying,
    "Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry'", (Going to see either dying loved one at hospital or gravesite, saying 'I'm sorry' about the person's dying/death)
    "Nobody said it was easy" (to lose a loved one)
    "It's such a shame for us to part" (Due to death)
    "Oh, take me back to the start", (Wishes he could they could go back to when they were first starting out)
    And more...

    Sure we can sit here. And say. This mean this or that, in our eyes. But what is important is that the core of the song, there is something sad. And an artistic desperate search for something.
    It could be one, or all of everyone's suggestions, songs mean more than one thing to many.
    On the subject of about God, I've been contemplating and searching to see if they have any background, but probably for purposes of loosing a crowd and gaining another, they don't release that stuff. Plus. They're rather trippy live performances don't suggest what I believe in, but they put on a good show.

    On the surface of the song, the speaker addresses his ex and speaks of his regrets:.
    1. How he never made her realize or was able to communicate to her how beautiful (internal or external) she is, how special and unique;
    2. How he never realized how much hard work a relationship would take;
    3. How they spent precious energy and time overthinking things and getting lost in the puzzle of love's ups and downs;
    4. How the complexities of love ultimately got the better of them, kept them spinning until they broke up;
    5. How he ultimately realizes his mistakes and passionately wishes he could just go back to the first moment, the first day, to try again, having learned from his/their mistakes and start afresh. He would settle for any part of her "to haunt" him as he realizes and aches for his loss.
    The speaker feels had he been more the "scientist," an analytic, a problem solver, perhaps he could have saved the relationship. However, he, as an emotional personal, found such tasks too much for him. If he had been the problem solver, such answers would still fail to explain the working of his heart and passion. Thus, like all of us at some point, he longs for that unattainable second chance. He just has to accept this loss as participating in the human experience.

    I think this song definately has to do with the idea of men and women will never fully understand each other. We may sit and think we have each other figured out but we never really do. And we can guess at it all the time but the way that we think is entirely different. The "nobody said it was easy. This hard means that relationships are something that we constantly have to work at cuz its an ongoing lesson of the opposite s**. Tho I could be entirely wrong, but I think its a great interpretation.

    Now I'm not saying this has anything to do with Coldplay, their beliefs or whatnot, this is purely my interpretation. I think this song could be about God and his love for us, "You don't know how lovely you are", "Tell you I set you apart", "No one ever said it would be this hard", "Questions of science, science and progress/Do not speak as loud as my heart" are just some examples of idea's of God's love and knowledge, how we were made in his image, how even in the most strictest of science or logic the heart leads us, not our brains. Just an idea though.

    I love this song a lot. It made me rest 4 a while whenever I listen to it. In my view, he is trying 2 gain back his love after a long thinking whether he sud apologise or not 4 his wrong deeds(numbers, figures, head, tails, puzzles), he can't concentrate on his work, his progress(science, progress). Atlast he comes up apologise, he became aware of his lovely moments with her. He consoles her not to fight again. And lastly she agreed, they were again back where they love, play, care 4 each other. And he was on top of the world.

    In my opinion this song is about how a guy messes up and does somethig stupid and he trys to appoligize to the girl about it and how he want to get back with her and start out fresh without messing up and he also talks about that he can't be with out her and how they just can't split and it also talks about the meaning of being in love.

    Whenever I listen to this music before and after I go to bed, the tune always reminds me of my ex- boyfriend who just took me for granted and played with me. Its almost five years by now, and still. I love him with all my heart. I don't understand why until now, I still can't move on. I find it haunting. All my memories with him is haunting me.

    The title itself describe the best meaning. Its really the message that defines the belief of a scientist as before they don't believe in God and afterwards finally he admits to himself that what God did for us are differs from science. It can be meant to the people who let time passed by taking for granted someone's special to them that they wanted to go back to start and correct the mistakes.

    Its a special song. I think it talks about the pain of being caught up in things that keep us too busy to love. A business man chasing money 24. 7, an economist buried in growth and recession charts such, biochemist with molecular structures, students too busy chasing distinctions to love. All these people don't love or lose their relationships because they're too busy. It talks about a heart that feels empty because its missing the love that was once there or isn't there. Its a beautiful song.
