Linkin Park – What I've Done lyrics
In this farewell,
There's no blood,
There's no alibi
.
'Cause I've drawn regret,
From the truth,
Of a thousand lies
.

So let mercy come,
And wash away...

What I've done
.
I'll face myself,
To cross out what I've become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I've done
.

Put to rest
What you thought of me.
While I clean the slate,
With the hands,
Of uncertainty
.

So let mercy come,
And wash away...

What I've done.
I'll face myself,
To cross out what I've become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I've done.

For what I've done
I start again,
And whatever pain may come.
Today this ends,
And forgiving what I've done
.

I'll face myself,
To cross out what I've become.
Erase myself,
And let go of what I've done.
What I've done.

Forgiving What I've done.
(Na na na na na na na)

To me, this song is about self acceptance. Acceptance that we are flawed, have made many mistakes and starting a path of healing. Forgiving our own misdeeds and straying from our intended path. Removing the negativity that we have felt towards ourselves and self destructive tendencies, and becoming at peace with the imperfect person that we are.

The music video for "What I've Done" explores the many ironies of humanity and its ill effects on the earth and the environment. It juxtaposes various pieces of footage: a large, well-fed man eating fast food, a woman measuring her waist and a man who is so malnourished that his ribcage is visible through his skin; African Americans being hosed down and the Ku Klux Klan; nuclear explosions, the World Trade Center towers collapsing, children waving American flags, a Middle Eastern child holding an ak-47, clips of oil tankers torn in half and birds covered in an oil slick. The band's turntablist Joe Hahn directed the video for the single, which was shot in the California desert.[5] The video premiered on April 2, 2007 on mtv and Fuse. It premiered on mtv-Asia, mtv-Germany, tmf Netherlands and Canada's Muchmusic on April 3, 2007.

I like to think of this song as a story.
The story is about a person who has made a mistake and he has hurt his friend or something{i like to think he use to be a monster until he realized his mistake}and he's singing this song in a junkyard while he's limping around. When he says forgiving what I've done he uses all his power to bring it back to what it was like before he made his mistake but in the process he died too.

What I've done has a deep but simple meaning. It explores about the mistakes and ironies of human civilization throughout the history up to the present that affects the earth mankind and environment. We need to change everything from now on, even ourselves, in order to have a peaceful and wonderful planet in the future. Actually this is one of my favorite songs and favorite band, the linkin park. Lets change. This is a wake up call to everyone!

It's about a veteran who comes home and has to live with what he/she did in the war. And they were re-engineered in the military to become killers. When you kill someone, you have to live with it. That or pray for mercy and kill yourself. That is why a veteran kills himself every hour. But they leave behind a shattered and grieving family. The ramifications last for generations.

Personally, this delivers an important message about humanity to me (at least the associated music video does). I think it means that humanity has made its mistakes - it's done some good and it's done some bad. In the end, we're not a perfect civilization. We're not a perfect species - never was, never have, and never will be.
